Earlier, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Sports reported that the national team topped the medal standings with 74 medals — 32 gold, 20 silver and 22 bronze. Kyrgyzstan placed second with 84 medals — 30 gold, 35 silver and 19 bronze.
However, the Kyrgyz side came up with different figures. The official World Nomad Games account published a table showing Kyrgyzstan in first place with 30 gold medals and Kazakhstan in second with 29.
After questions were raised and media reports appeared, a controversy erupted. The post on the Games’ Instagram account was first deleted, then restored, and later removed again. The medal standings also disappeared from the competition’s official website.
The organizers of the Games explained the situation: “The final medal standings of the 6th World Nomad Games will be published after the final information is received from the Games Secretariat. Until official confirmation, the consolidated table will not be published. Competition results and medals by sport are available in the relevant sections.”
Kyrgyzstan’s State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports also issued a statement.
“In accordance with the concept of the World Nomad Games, no official medal standings or overall team rankings by country are maintained.
The World Nomad Games are first and foremost an international platform for preserving, developing and promoting ethnic and traditional sports, as well as strengthening cultural ties and friendship among peoples.
The concept of the Games is based not on competition between countries for places in an overall ranking, but on bringing nations together around a shared historical and cultural heritage,” the statement said.
The 6th World Nomad Games were held in Kyrgyzstan from August 31 to September 6, 2026. The program featured traditional sports, with athletes from more than 100 countries taking part.
