10-year age gap: Kazakh athletes battle for Asian Games medal in derby

Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s jiu-jitsu athletes Adlan Madayev and Bolatbek Seiyilkhan faced each other in a bronze-medal bout at the Asian Games.

In the 77-kilogram weight category, 31-year-old Adlan reached the semifinals, where he lost to a representative of the UAE. Bolatbek, who is 10 years younger, was eliminated in the quarterfinals but managed to qualify for the bronze-medal match through the repechage.

In the end, the younger Seiyilkhan won on points, 2:0. At the end of the bout, Madayev showed respect to his compatriot by raising his hand.

This medal became Kazakhstan’s third in jiu-jitsu at the 2026 Asian Games.

The day before, Nurzhan Batyrbekov won silver, while Zhibek Kulumbetova took bronze.

Earlier, boxer Torekhan Sabyrkhan, competing in the 70-kilogram division, won Kazakhstan’s 10th gold medal at the Asian Games.
