“14 records”: Kazakh weightlifters deliver sensational performance at Asian Championships

Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s junior weightlifters won gold medals and set a series of records at the U17 Asian Championships in Tashkent, according to the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan.

Beibarys Yerseit lifted a total of 281 kilograms in the combined event — 129 kilograms in the snatch and 152 kilograms in the clean and jerk. The result earned the Kazakh athlete a gold medal.

Yerseit also won the snatch event, setting a new Asian record in the U17 age category. His combined total was also a new U17 Asian record.

As a result, the Kazakh athlete completed his performance in Tashkent with two gold medals and two continental records.

Fifteen-year-old Kazakh weightlifter Snezhana Kashkarova won five gold medals and set six records — three continental and three world records. She became the overall Asian champion in her category.

Competing in the up-to-57-kilogram weight class, Kashkarova lifted 88 kilograms in the snatch and 112 kilograms in the clean and jerk, giving her a combined total of 200 kilograms.

According to the Weightlifting Federation, this was one of the standout performances of the competition in Tashkent.

Another Kazakh athlete, Xeniya Prozorova, caused a sensation at the Asian Championships. Competing in the 61-kilogram category, she won gold and set Asian and world records in the snatch with a lift of 94 kilograms.

By the end of the competition, Prozorova had won two gold medals and set three world records and three Asian records, becoming the overall leader of the Asian Championships among girls with results of 94 kilograms in the snatch, 110 kilograms in the clean and jerk, and 204 kilograms in the combined total.

Earlier, Kazakh athlete Nurzhan Zhumabay set a world record and won gold in the up-to-88-kilogram weight category at the World Youth Weightlifting Championships in Cali, Colombia.
