Tengrinews.kz — Lionel Messi’s eldest son, Thiago, is set to join Barcelona’s academy this autumn, according to journalist Fran Casaretto.

Media reports suggest that Thiago Messi could sign a contract with the Catalan club in November, after turning 14.

“Thiago Messi is leaving Inter Miami’s academy to join Barcelona’s youth team. A new chapter begins at the club where his father made history,” the source claims.

Neither Messi nor the clubs have officially confirmed the move. However, Fran Casaretto has previously reported several stories about Messi that were later confirmed.

Thiago Messi is his father’s double

Lionel Messi’s eldest son has already attracted media attention several times with his performances and his resemblance to his father.

By the age of 11, the boy already had his own fan club, while social media users described him as “a copy of Messi.”

In 2024, Thiago Messi won his first trophy in the United States with Inter Miami’s youth team.

Messi Jr. has already found a potential Barcelona teammate

Long before reports emerged about Thiago Messi’s possible move to Barcelona, journalists were already asking him about playing for the Catalan club, largely because of his father’s importance to Barcelona.

In 2024, the young footballer revealed which player he would like to share the pitch with.

“One day, I would like to play with Lamine Yamal,” he said in an interview.

Barcelona’s first Kazakh player is only a year older than Messi’s son

Fourteen-year-old Kazakh footballer Karim Mendikanov is already playing in Barcelona’s academy. According to media reports, he is currently trying out with the under-16 team.

It is not yet known which age group Thiago Messi would join. However, if he follows in his father’s footsteps, he could soon begin playing with older age groups.

Thiago Messi will turn 14 on November 2, while Karim will turn 15 on November 10.

Lionel Messi is a Barcelona legend

Lionel Messi began his professional career at the Catalan club, progressing from the academy to the senior team.

In total, Messi spent around 20 years in Spain and helped the club win numerous trophies, including 10 La Liga titles, seven domestic cups and four Champions League titles.

Messi also became Barcelona’s all-time leading scorer, with 672 goals in 778 appearances.

His departure from the club was dramatic. Five years ago, he held a tearful press conference before moving to Paris Saint-Germain.
