Tengrinews.kz — A sample taken from Kazakhstani runner Ayana Bolatbekkyzy during the Asian Games has tested positive for a banned substance, citing the International Testing Agency (ITA).

According to the ITA, the sample was collected by the International Testing Agency (ITA) under the authority of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) during an in-competition anti-doping control on September 27, 2026, in Nagoya, Japan.

Drostanolone—a synthetic anabolic steroid used to increase muscle hardness and strength—was detected in the Kazakhstani athlete's system.

The athlete was provisionally suspended from competition immediately following the discovery of the substance.

It is noted that Bolatbekkyzy has the right to challenge the provisional suspension before the Court of Arbitration for Sport Anti-Doping Division (CAS ADD) and to request the analysis of her B-sample.

Who is Ayana Bolatbekkyzy?

Ayana is just 19 years old; she was born in the Jetisu Region on November 5, 2006.

She specializes in middle-distance running. Representing Kazakhstan at the Asian Games in Japan, she competed in the 1500-meter race, reaching the final where she finished 10th out of 11 participants.

Our correspondent attempted to contact the athlete and the Kazakhstan Athletics Federation, but they are not yet prepared to comment on the incident.

Another athletics scandal at the Asian Games

As a reminder, another incident involving Kazakhstan’s national athletics team occurred during these Asian Games.

Yasmina Toksanbaeva won the race walk marathon, but her result was disqualified because her footwear was not on the approved list. As a result, the athlete was stripped of her medal.
