Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan’s Olympic figure skating champion Mikhail Shaidorov has entered the top three figure skaters in the world, according to the press service of the Kazakhstan Figure Skating Federation.

According to the federation, the International Skating Union (ISU) updated its world rankings ahead of the start of the new season.

“Mikhail Shaidorov has moved up to third place with 3,918 points!” the press service said.

However, the federation did not specify Shaidorov’s position in the previous version of the rankings.

Top 3 figure skaters in the world

  • Ilia Malinin (USA) — 4,590 points;
  • Yuma Kagiyama (Japan) — 4,123;
  • Mikhail Shaidorov (Kazakhstan) — 3,918.

Among women, Kazakhstan’s Sofia Samodelkina also made the top 15, ranking 13th in the world.

Why isn’t Shaidorov No. 1 if he won the biggest event in four years

The ISU world ranking reflects not only current results but also athletes’ consistency over three seasons. The Olympic Games and World Championships are weighted equally in the ranking, with each worth 1,200 points.

As a result, ranking leader Ilia Malinin and Mikhail Shaidorov earned the same number of points for their best result last season, as the American won the World Championships.

Malinin also posted stronger results in the Grand Prix series and accumulated more points during the previous season.

Mikhail Shaidorov — Kazakhstan’s historic champion

As a reminder, Mikhail Shaidorov won Olympic gold in men’s singles figure skating in Italy in February 2026. Previously, Kazakhstan’s best result at an event of this level was Denis Ten’s bronze medal at the 2014 Games.

Shaidorov was fifth after the short program but delivered the strongest free skate to claim the gold medal.
