Tengrinews.kz — On Sunday, Kazakhstan’s best-known footballer, Dastan Satpayev, made his first appearance for Burnley in the Championship. Alongside the 18-year-old winger, several other Kazakh players were also in action over the weekend. Tengrinews.kz rounds up the key developments involving Kazakhstanis playing abroad.
The main event for Kazakh football over the weekend was the long-awaited debut of Dastan Satpayev. He came on in the 57th minute against West Bromwich Albion, but his team suffered a surprise 3:1 defeat.
The winger has yet to score for Burnley, but he still made a solid impression, completing 14 of his 16 passes.
Kazakhstanis in the Russian Premier League: Chesnokov starts with a win at new club
Another Kazakh player joined the Russian Premier League last week. Islam Chesnokov, after returning to Tobol from Hearts, decided to try his luck with Krylia Sovetov Samara.
The coach handed Islam a place in the starting lineup for the match against Akron.
Like Satpayev, Chesnokov failed to score on his debut. He also received a yellow card and earned a relatively low rating from WhoScored — just 6.4, the lowest among the Samara players.
With the score at 1:0, Chesnokov was substituted in the 64th minute, after which his team scored two more unanswered goals.
Alip loses, while Samorodov, Kenzhebek and Zaynutdinov do not play
Kazakhstan national team captain and Zenit defender Nuraly Alip took part in the high-profile derby against Spartak. The Kazakh player came on in the 57th minute in place of Nino, and Zenit did not concede while he was on the pitch.
Alip was one of Zenit’s better performers after the break, but it was not enough to help his team. A 2:0 defeat to the Moscow side dropped the St. Petersburg club to fourth place.
The other Kazakh players in the Russian Premier League did not feature at all. Samorodov is recovering from an injury at Akhmat, while Kenzhebek was not given any playing time in the win over Rostov. Bakhtiyor Zaynutdinov was not even included in Dynamo’s squad for the match against Rodina.
Smakov’s son shines in Turkey
Eighteen-year-old Kairat academy graduate Alamgir Smakov, who until recently played for the Almaty club, has moved to Turkish side Besiktas. The son of a Kazakhstan national team legend is currently playing for the youth team, but if he continues in this form, he could soon be in contention for a place in the senior squad.
The Kazakh player has already scored twice in his first two matches. He found the net against Eyupspor on August 16 and then scored the winning goal against Alanyaspor on August 23 in Turkey’s under-19 championship.
Pokatilov prepares for Champions League, Yakovlev and Aimanov lose in Belarus
Three other potential Kazakhstan national team players compete in leagues across the CIS — for Belarusian club Naftan and Azerbaijani side Sabah.
Goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov and his team are preparing after losing the first leg against Hapoel in the Champions League qualifying playoffs. The team did not play over the weekend, giving them additional time to prepare for the return leg at home on August 25.
Two Kazakh players started for the Belarusian club on August 22 — forward Marlen Aimanov and midfielder Vadim Yakovlev. However, they were unable to help their team, as Naftan lost 2:0 to Neman.
Several other Kazakh players are also competing for youth teams abroad. In Spain, they include Karim Mendikanov at Barcelona U16, Aldiyar Nurgali at Levante U18 and Shyngys Kaliyev at CD Castellón U19; in Belgium, Shakhmurat Dauletov at Genk U18; and in Turkey, Timurhan Kartal at Yozgatspor. None of them played an official match in recent days.
