Tengrinews.kz - Kazakhstan’s world boxing champion Natalya Bogdanova could not hold back tears during the bronze medal ceremony at the Asian Games. The boxing federation believes her semifinal defeat was the result of a judging error.

Natalya Bogdanova won bronze in the 75-kilogram weight category. In the semifinals, the Kazakh world champion lost to India’s Lovlina Borgohain, who went on to win gold.

Journalists noticed tears on Bogdanova’s face during the medal ceremony.

As a reminder, following the semifinal bouts involving Bogdanova and Makhmud Sabyrkhan at the Asian Games, the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation filed a protest against what it described as unfair judging decisions.

“We have filed a protest because we disagree with the decision. Bogdanova clearly won, and so did Makhmud. We disagree with the judges’ decisions, and we have expressed this both here, to the Asian Confederation, and to World Boxing. So we do not agree with the decision — roughly speaking, the victory was taken away from them,” KBF Executive Director Rauan Igenov told our correspondent.

However, the protest could not affect the outcome of the bout, as the regulations do not provide for a procedure to overturn the result.
