Tengrinews.kz — Akhmat football club, which features Kazakhstan players Galymzhan Kenzhebek and Maksim Samorodov, has announced the appointment of a new head coach. The team was previously managed by Stanislav Cherchesov, according to the club’s press service.

The Grozny-based club’s new head coach is Rolan Gusev, a three-time Russian champion and UEFA Cup winner with CSKA Moscow. No details have been provided on the length of his contract.

Gusev previously worked at Dynamo Moscow, where another Kazakhstan national team leader, Bakhtiyor Zaynutdinov, trained under him.

A few hours before Gusev’s appointment, Akhmat announced the departure of former Kazakhstan national team coach Stanislav Cherchesov.

“Akhmat Football Club and head coach Stanislav Cherchesov have reached an agreement to terminate the employment contract by mutual consent. On Monday, Stanislav Salamovich said goodbye to the team,” the statement said.

Cherchesov had been in charge for just over a year, since August 2025. This season, Akhmat have recorded two wins, six defeats and five draws. The team currently sits 15th out of 16 clubs in the Russian championship.

Samorodov and Kenzhebek called up to Kazakhstan squad

Both Kazakhstan players at the Grozny club have been included in the national team’s final squad for the decisive Nations League matches against Moldova and Slovakia.

In the absence of Dastan Satpayev, Maksim Samorodov will be the most valuable player in the Kazakhstan squad, with Transfermarkt estimating his market value at 4 million euros. This season, he has scored just one goal in 13 matches for Akhmat, as well as one against the Faroe Islands in the Nations League.
