Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstani boxer Aibek Oralbay, competing in the 90+ kg weight class, has secured a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games.

In the final bout, the captain of the Kazakhstan men's national team faced Uzbekistan's Jakhongir Zokirov.

Fight Summary

The first round began at a measured pace, with both boxers searching for range and establishing their tactics. Oralbay took the role of the aggressor, landing single shots and putting power behind his punches. The Uzbek fighter looked to counter on the back foot, occasionally attempting to seize the initiative.

Towards the end of the round, Oralbay engaged in a flurry, successfully landing several clean blows. The judges favored the Kazakhstani in a split decision for the round, 3-2.

The second round saw increased activity from Oralbay. He measured the distance with his jab before unleashing combinations when his opponent left openings. At one point, while breaking from a clinch, Zokirov landed a blow to the back of the head, prompting the referee to deduct a point. The Uzbek boxer began relying more heavily on clinching defensively. The judges awarded the second round unanimously to Oralbay, 5-0.

In the third round, Zokirov began to press the Kazakhstani, throwing long combinations while moving forward with heavy hooks. Oralbay managed to defend effectively and respond with counterattacks. By the midpoint of the round, both fighters had slowed down, which impacted their accuracy. However, the Kazakhstani appeared fresher, showing superior footwork and maintaining a higher work rate.

After three rounds, Aibek Oralbay secured a decisive 5-0 victory to claim the Asian Games gold medal.

As a reminder, Aibek Oralbay defeated India's Narender in the semifinals. The Kazakhstani dominated all three rounds, leaving his opponent no chance of advancing. Oralbay ultimately won that bout by a landslide unanimous decision, 5-0.
