Kazakhstan reached the top 3 of the Asian Games medal table after sixth gold

Tengrinews.kz — Kazakhstan's national team has overtaken South Korea in the Asian Games medal standings to break into the top three.

Today, Kazakhstani athletes secured two gold and two bronze medals, propelling the team to third place in the overall medal count at the Asian Games.

The national team's current tally stands at 12 medals: six gold, one silver, and five bronze.

After surpassing South Korea, Kazakhstan now trails only Japan (9 gold medals) and China (28 gold medals).

All 2026 Asian Games champions from Kazakhstan

As a reminder, Kazakhstan's first gold medal at the Asian Games in Japan was claimed by cyclist Rinata Sultanova, who won the individual pursuit.

Following her lead, Alexey Lutsenko secured the team's second gold in road cycling, also winning the individual time trial.

Two additional gold medals for Kazakhstan were won by karatekas Zholaman Bigabyl and Sofya Berultseva.

And today, Kazakhstani fighters secured the first gold medals in mixed martial arts, which is making its debut in the Asian Games program. First, Erkingali Burkutalin became the Asian Games champion in the under-77kg category, followed by Kadyrbek Shynbaev winning the final in the under-71kg category.

The 2026 Asian Games are being held in Aichi and Nagoya, Japan, and will continue until October 4.
